Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association (HKFDA)
Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association (HKFDA) was founded in 1984 by a group of successful and enthusiastic local fashion designers. As a non-profit making and self-financed organization, it aims to unite fashion designers, with both professionalism and expertise, to develop and better both their careers and the industry within and beyond the territory.
With supports from the industry and fellow designers in the past 41 years, the Association has evolved to a key platform to share ideas and experiences through organizing fashion events such as catwalk shows, seminars, interviews and group discussions. HKFDA is recognized as one of the leading fashion institutions in the region of Hong Kong SAR, Mainland China and other cities in the South Pacific region.
Highly applauded by the public and media, the most renowned and recognized annual events held by HKFDA are “Best Dressed Award”, “Fashion Visionaries” and "Juxtaposed" show and exhibition, and “The Young Talent Award”.

As a veteran actor in Hong Kong cinema, Simon Yam has long been revered for his exceptional acting skills. Yet, the boundaries of his artistic creativity extend far beyond performance. With a unique aesthetic vision, he has ventured into photography, art, and fashion, gradually building a diverse artistic IP landscape that represents Hong Kong culture. Yam’s artistic journey showcases the rare versatility of Hong Kong artists, transforming personal aesthetics into tangible fashion pieces and lifestyle art, shaping a cultural identity with distinct Hong Kong characteristics.
Sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) under Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of HKSAR, Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association (HKFDA) is honored to ignite “Luminance by Simon Yam”, a systematic expansion of the "Simon Yam IP", extending his multidisciplinary artworks into fashion, homeware, and cultural creative prototypes so that to explore the possibility of developing IP products, establishing an iconic artistic-commercial ecosystem that represents Hong Kong’s cultural essence. As more cross-disciplinary collaborations unfold, the "Simon Yam IP" may well become a vital vessel for showcasing Hong Kong’s creative vitality.
“Luminance by Simon Yam” aims to foster innovative cross-sectoral and cross-genre collaboration by bridging the worlds of visual arts, lifestyle and fashion design. By bringing together the actor Simon Yam's multidisciplinary artistry with cutting-edge fashion and lifestyle designers, the initiative creates a dynamic platform for creative exchange between traditionally separate industries.
The collaboration challenges conventional boundaries by transforming two-dimensional artworks into 3 dimensional lifestyle and fashion pieces. It serves as a catalyst for new forms of artistic expression that emerge when photography, traditional ink painting, embroidery, fashion and lifestyle product design intersect. Ultimately, “Luminance” demonstrates how cross-pollination between different creative disciplines can generate fresh perspectives, push artistic boundaries, and create commercially viable IP that resonates with contemporary audiences while preserving cultural heritage.

Simon Yam is a celebrated Hong Kong actor with a remarkable career spanning more than 50 years. Renowned for his versatile talents, Yam has made his mark not only in Hong Kong cinema but also in Hollywood, where he has taken on diverse roles as an actor, producer, director, and filmmaker. Having appeared in over 240 film and television projects, he has consistently drawn critical acclaim and audience admiration.
Throughout his career, Simon Yam has earned numerous prestigious awards, including accolades from the Hong Kong Film Awards and Hong Kong Film Critics Society, as well as international honors such as Best Actor at the Spanish Film Festival. Several of his films have represented Hong Kong at the American Academy Awards, and he has been a regular presence at major international film festivals like Cannes, Berlin, and Venice.
In 1997, Yam published his first photography book, Heartfelt. His personal photography series, Five Seasons, was exhibited at the Pingyao International Photography Festival in 2009, followed by his 2017 collection, Hong Kong: Other Landscapes. His photographic work is celebrated for its distinct vision and deep emotional expressiveness.
More recently, Simon Yam has expanded his artistic expression into painting. Unlike traditionally trained artists, his approach focuses on emotion rather than technical precision. Working with acrylics and oils, he blends visual boundaries to create a unique style of ink painting. His work is defined by bold colors, dynamic fluidity, and powerful emotional resonance, balancing grand compositions with subtle emotional nuances.
Whereas acting demands immersive narrative portrayal, Yam’s paintings are more spontaneous and abstract, reflecting his personal connection to nature. Through attentive observation and boundless curiosity, he weaves natural colors and unexpected details into his art, creating fresh energy and inviting viewers to find their own reflections on life’s varied experiences within each piece.
